Making Difficult Decisions
We can only get from here to there one step at a time. We often find ourselves feeling confused or overwhelmed when life turns a corner on us. We feel stuck and that keeps us from doing anything.
Overwhelm and confusion show up for us when our brain is telling us there is a right way and a wrong way to proceed. When it comes to making decisions we have never made before of course there is uncertainty, but we don’t have to let that paralyze us from making decisions and taking action.
What if we allowed ourselves to think that there was no right or wrong decision. Just a decision that drives us to an action. We either create the outcome we want from that decision or take the information we learned and move in another direction. Either way we are moving closer to where we want to be. If we stay stuck in indecision we get nowhere!
When my father’s Alzheimer’s disease progressed to a point where we as a family could no longer provide the safe care he needed there were many decisions to make. We checked out facilities, we talked to staff, we looked into all the programs and provisions offered and we made a decision. And along the road we made other decisions based on what we learned from the previous ones.
It is easier to step into making decisions when we give ourselves some grace and step in knowing that we will make them one at a time. No need to judge our decisions because whatever we decide is going to lead us to more clarity along the way!
